For years, and years, I thought that McDonald’s simply used Thousand Island dressing as their secret sauce. I hadn’t actually had a Big Mac in years, so that thought just sort of stayed in the back of my mind until my son tried the famous sandwich and loved it.
What is McDonald’s special sauce? I really don’t know.
I tested out a few different ideas I had found, and eventually settled on this combination. So, I don’t know for certain what’s in the McDonald’s Big Mac Sauce, but I do know that this is a deliciously close substitute. It literally tastes like I’m having one of those mouthwatering sandwiches each and every time I make this.
Tip for the Buns: It’s not easy to find a 3-part bun, so I purchase sesame seed buns – and then purchase plain buns. I use the bottom portion for the middle layer of this double-decker burger. When you run out of the bottom layer of regular bun, you can squish the top layer to make a substitute for the homemade Big Mac bun.
I would love for you to make it and let me know what you think!

How to make copycat Big Mac Sauce
This recipe is super simple. Just chop the onion very finely, then measure out the different ingredients and stir together!
I suggest going all out and purchasing sesame seed buns, regular buns, pickles, American cheese and extra onion for that perfect McDonald’s taste.
