Was it on the Andy Griffith show that I first heard about the apple and cheese combination, or was it from an older relative at a family reunion years ago? I’m not certain at this point.
I had probably heard of it before we started watching Andy Griffith with the kids when they were little. But that’s really where it stuck out for me.
I really thought that I wasn’t going to enjoy this combination at all, but I was pleasantly surprised.
It’s a savory loaf, to be sure. I’m also fairly certain that I have had this combination at some point in my life, because it was familiar.

How to Make Apple Cheese Loaf
Equipment
- 1 Loaf pan
Ingredients
- ½ Cup butter
- ½ Cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 Cup all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 2 Cup finely chopped tart apples
- 2 Tbsp milk
- 1½ Cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- ½ Cup walnuts, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F
- In large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar
- Add in eggs and beat
- Mix in all dry ingredients
- Stir in apples, and milk
- Stire in cheese and walnuts
- Grease an 8x4x2 bread loaf pan
- Pour mixture into pan
- Bake approximately 45 minutes
