Cornbread can come in a variety of ways – this is one of my favorite ways to make a basic, delicious cornbread!
The cast iron skillet I use for this cornbread recipe is my Lodge 10-inch skillet. You can find it here on Amazon.
Homemade Cornbread Recipe
Easy and delicious!
Ingredients
- 1½ C all-purpose flour
- 1½ C Yellow Cornmeal
- 1½ C white granulated sugar
- 1½ tsp salt
- 4¾ tsp baking powder
- 2 large eggs
- 1½ C milk
- ⅔ C shortening (or bacon grease, or melted butter)
Grease for skillet
- 2 - 3 Tbsp bacon grease (or shortenin or butter)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425° and place cast iron skillet in oven to heat
- Mix all ingredients together thoroughly
- While skillet is heating in the oven, drop the bacon grease into the skillet to melt for approximately 1 minute (not too long!)
- Remove iron skillet from oven and brush bacon grease around the inside of the skillet, including the walls
- Pour cornbread mixture into skillet
- Bake approximately 25 minutes or until top is turning a golden brown and the center is cooked.
